9 million Indians are visually impaired. 80% of that blindness is preventable. We go to the villages, the factories, the highway hubs — wherever sight is at risk — and restore it. Every rupee goes directly to a patient.

Our journey
since 2015

What started as a single mobile clinic in Dadri has grown into a multi-state eye care network. Every step driven by one belief: preventable blindness is unacceptable when the cure costs ₹4,000.

We train local healthcare workers to create self-sufficient eye-care ecosystems that outlast our camps.
Founded March 2015 · Dadri, UP
"We don't just restore vision — we restore futures. A child who can see the blackboard stays in school. A worker who can see the lathe keeps his job. A grandmother who can see her grandchildren's faces has her life back."

Vision 2030 — 50,000 annual surgeries

Our 12-stage clinical journey

From the first knock on a village door to a patient walking out of surgery with clear sight — every step documented, audited, accountable.

Phase 1 — Community & Outreach
01
Community outreach
Volunteers visit remote villages door-to-door. Awareness sessions, family education, and identifying high-risk patients (elderly, diabetic, long-distance workers).
02
Village mobilisation
Coordinating with local leaders and panchayat, logistics planning, transport arrangements for the mobile unit, and scheduling based on harvest or market-day calendars.
Phase 2 — Diagnostics & Screening
03
Registration & intake
Digital patient ID, demographic logging, baseline health check, and consent documentation. Every patient receives a printed appointment card.
04
Primary vision test
Visual acuity using computerised Snellen charts. Colour vision, peripheral assessment. Immediate glasses prescription if refractive error detected.
05
Specialist review
Ophthalmologist consultation for all flagged cases — cataracts, glaucoma suspicion, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy.
06
Diagnostic workup
Slit-lamp examination, tonometry (eye pressure), fundus photography, A-scan biometry for IOL power calculation before surgery.
Phase 3 — Surgery & Care
07
Surgical selection
Clinical review panel identifies and counsels surgical candidates. Family consent, pre-op instructions, and transport arrangement to partner hospital — all coordinated.
08
Pre-operative prep
Systemic health checks (BP, blood sugar), fasting instructions, pupil dilation, sterile draping. Transport to hospital in our vehicles — free of charge.
09
Cataract surgery
Free SICS or Phaco surgery at partner hospitals. Premium IOL implantation. 98.8% success rate over 30,000+ procedures. Every surgery signed off by the operating surgeon.
Phase 4 — Post-Op & Long-term follow-up
10
Post-op care
Follow-up reviews at 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month. Medication supply. Complication monitoring with 24/7 emergency contact line for patients.
11
Spectacle dispensing
Post-surgical refraction to finalise prescription. Custom glasses issued through Apna Optical on the same day as follow-up visit.
12
Cornea pledge & awareness
Corneas must be harvested within 3–6 hours of death. Each patient and family is gently counselled. "एक नेत्रदान, एक नई जिंदगी" — one pledge gives sight to two people.
AUDIT
Outcome documentation
Visual acuity measured before and after. Patient satisfaction recorded. All data archived and available on audit request. Third-party clinical panel review annually.

What donors say
"I donated ₹4,000 on a Sunday morning. By Tuesday, our field coordinator sent me a photo of the patient who received the surgery — 67-year-old Rani Devi, seeing clearly for the first time in three years. That photo is saved on my phone. I look at it on bad days."

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers about our operations, surgical outcomes, transparency, and how you can help.

How long has Upa-Netra Foundation been operating, and what impact has it made?
Founded in March 2015 in Dadri, UP, we have been operating for over 10 years. In that time we have impacted 10 Lakh+ lives, conducted 30,000+ cataract surgeries with a 98.8% clinical success rate, distributed 75,000+ pairs of glasses, and held 900+ eye camps across NCR, UP, and surrounding regions. Every figure is third-party audited and available on request.
Where does Upa-Netra Foundation primarily focus its efforts?
Our primary focus is the NCR and Uttar Pradesh region, reaching 240+ villages, 150+ schools, 80+ industrial zones, 300+ highway transit hubs, and 65+ urban slum clusters. We are expanding to additional states as our surgical capacity and team grow toward the Vision 2030 target.
Can I choose a specific program to support with my donation?
Yes. When donating you can designate your contribution to a specific program — School Eye Screening, Rural Mobile Camps, Laborers Vision, Nigahe Safar, Apna Optical, or Urban Slum clinics. Contact us at hello@upanetrafoundation.org or mention your preference in the donation notes. All designated funds are tracked and reported separately.
What updates will I receive after donating?
All donors receive quarterly impact reports with camp logs, surgery counts, and field photographs. Donors giving ₹10,000 or more receive personalised impact certificates and direct updates from our field coordinator. Major donors (₹50,000+) may visit active camps as guests if they wish.
Are there tax benefits for NRI donors?
NRI donors can contribute via wire transfer (SWIFT), PayPal, or international payment gateways. 80G tax benefits apply to Indian taxpayers only — NRIs should consult their country's tax advisor for deduction eligibility. All NRI donations are fully accepted and acknowledged with receipts. Please email hello@upanetrafoundation.org for SWIFT details.
What does "87% goes directly to patient care" mean exactly?
Of every rupee received, 87 paise goes to direct field operations — surgical costs, glasses procurement, medicines, camp transport, and optometrist fees. 13 paise goes to organisational overhead — coordination, auditing, communications, and compliance. This ratio is audited annually by an independent CA firm and published in our annual report.
Can I donate in a currency other than Indian Rupees?
Yes. We accept international donations via wire transfer (SWIFT), PayPal, and select international payment gateways. All amounts are converted at the prevailing interbank rate and fully acknowledged with receipts. Email us for bank details: hello@upanetrafoundation.org.
How do I volunteer with Upa-Netra Foundation?
We welcome volunteers in several roles — camp coordination, patient registration, data entry, photography, community outreach, and medical support (for healthcare professionals). Volunteers commit to at least one camp day per month. Contact us at hello@upanetrafoundation.org with your availability, location, and skills.
